2. Sources of information

We may receive information directly from Members, from connected financial institutions and data providers authorized by a Member, from service providers, from a Member’s device or use of the service, from public or commercially available sources where legally permitted, and from information generated by DIY Finance systems.

3. How we use information

We may use personal information to:

  • provide, operate, personalize, and improve the service;
  • authenticate Members and protect accounts;
  • connect, reconcile, organize, and display financial information;
  • generate calculations, estimates, scenarios, educational guidance, and Member-requested analysis;
  • provide Member support and resolve disputes;
  • send service, security, membership, billing, and other permitted communications;
  • detect, prevent, investigate, and respond to fraud, abuse, security threats, and technical problems;
  • maintain records, audit systems, test product performance, and improve service quality;
  • comply with law, regulatory obligations, legal process, and enforceable agreements; and
  • protect DIY Finance, Members, service providers, and third parties.

4. Sensitive information

Financial information, authentication information, precise account details, and certain demographic or identity information can be sensitive. DIY Finance seeks to collect and use sensitive information only for legitimate service, security, support, compliance, or Member-requested purposes and to limit access according to role and need.

DIY Finance does not use sensitive financial information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. How we disclose information

We may disclose personal information to:

  • service providers that host, secure, operate, authenticate, analyze, communicate, process payments, connect data, or provide other functionality for DIY Finance;
  • financial-data providers and connected institutions where necessary to provide a Member-authorized connection;
  • professional advisers, auditors, insurers, or consultants where reasonably necessary for legitimate business or legal purposes;
  • law enforcement, regulators, courts, or other parties when disclosure is required or permitted by law;
  • counterparties to a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, sale, or similar corporate transaction, subject to appropriate legal protections; and
  • other parties when the Member directs or expressly authorizes the disclosure.

Service providers are permitted to process information only for authorized purposes subject to applicable contractual and legal requirements.

6. Sale, sharing, and targeted advertising

DIY Finance does not sell personal information for money and does not sell Member financial data as a commercial data product.

DIY Finance does not use or disclose sensitive financial information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If future advertising, analytics, or technology practices are treated as a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under an applicable state privacy law, DIY Finance will provide the notices and opt-out rights required before or when those practices apply.

7. Automated systems and external technology providers

DIY Finance may use automated systems and external technology providers to help organize information, support conversations, classify information, produce estimates, or provide other service functionality.

DIY Finance seeks to minimize the personal information disclosed to external providers, contractually restrict provider use where appropriate, and apply the privacy and security controls appropriate to the information involved. Material financial calculations and Member-specific outputs remain subject to DIY Finance governance and applicable service disclosures.

See the Automated Systems Transparency Statement.

8. Member choices and privacy rights

Depending on where a Member lives and the nature of the information, a Member may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, or appeal of certain privacy decisions; to opt out of certain sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling practices; or to limit certain uses of sensitive personal information.

Members may also disconnect supported financial-data connections and correct material information within supported product experiences.

DIY Finance will not unlawfully discriminate against a Member for exercising an applicable privacy right.

Requests may be submitted through the Member Service Center or another privacy-request method identified in the service. DIY Finance may need to verify identity before fulfilling a request and may retain information where permitted or required for security, fraud prevention, audit, dispute handling, legal compliance, or another lawful purpose.

A Member may use an authorized agent where applicable law permits and required verification is completed.

9. Retention

DIY Finance retains information for periods reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security, prevent fraud, comply with contractual and legal obligations, support auditability, resolve disputes, and meet legitimate operational needs.

Retention periods vary by data type, sensitivity, purpose, and legal requirement. Regulated services may require different or longer retention periods under separate policies or agreements.

10. Security

DIY Finance maintains administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. See the Security Statement.

No security system can guarantee absolute protection.

11. Children

General DIY Finance membership is intended for adults age 18 and older. DIY Finance does not knowingly permit a child under 13 to create a general Member account. If DIY Finance later offers a service designed for minors, that service will use age-appropriate notices, consent, and privacy controls required by applicable law.

12. Enterprise-sponsored access

An employer, sponsor, or enterprise organization that facilitates access to DIY Finance does not automatically receive a Member’s individual financial information. Any Member-level disclosure to an enterprise customer must be authorized, legally permitted, purpose-limited, and consistent with applicable agreements and privacy notices.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

DIY Finance may update this Privacy Policy prospectively. Material changes will be communicated electronically where required by law, and consent will be obtained where legally required.

The effective date and prior operative versions will be maintained so that DIY Finance can determine which policy applied at a particular time.
